“Under The Sea” Sam DeFrancesca Ceramics 1 Class of 2026
For my art show this year I did an under the sea theme. I used the colors blue and green to give you the feeling of snorkeling in the endless ocean. I made a plate, cup, and a fish. I made the plate to give something for the fish to rest on. The plate was colored to represent an ocean floor. I made a cup to show all the water in the ocean. I made the fish to be my centerpiece of the show. I also made a fish because it was the first ever art I created with clay. This show also can represent a seafood dinner. I made the fish by first making a pinch pot for the mouth then scoring and slipping clay to make the body, fins, and eyes. It took a lot of trimming to make sure the pieces were not too thick. I made the plate by throwing on the wheel then trimming to lose thickness. I used sandpaper and a sponge to smooth out the piece. I created the cup by throwing a cylinder then adding the handle after it turned leather hard. Just like the plate I used a sponge and sandpaper to smooth the piece. What I want all of you to take away from my pieces is that a lot of difficult work goes into creating visually pleasing artwork and it takes lots of time and care.
